Virtual-athlon was started in 2012 by Lorenzo & Kay Poletto; local business owners from Sydney, Australia.
The main goal of Virtual-athlon is to raise money for charity. This was inspired by their own goals and achievements through their involvement in the Can Too program, in which participants raise valuable funds that go directly towards funding Cancer research through Cure Cancer Australia.
What is a virtual event?
A virtual event is an race or activity that can be run anywhere you are – no specific starting time or starting place.
Most of our events have specific end dates, but we give you plenty of time to finish it. Just pick your favourite venue/location and off you go… at your own pace.
Why sign up for a virtual event?
If you can’t afford to join an organised race, don’t have any happening near you, or are simply unable to participate in one… simply register for one of our Virtual-athlon events instead!
Our Virtual events allow you to compete against yourself, your family and friends, and other members of the Virtual-athlon community – ANYWHERE… ANYTIME!
What distance are virtual events?
Each event comes with it’s own goal distance, but you can complete that distance over a period of hours, days or even weeks.
Our swimming events are usually 1km, 2km or 2.5km distances. Running events typically are 5km, 10km, 21km (half-marathon)
How much does it cost?
Each Virtual-athlon event has a set entry fee, but 100% of the proceeds from our events goes to charity. Our principle charity is Can Too, who organises raises money for Cure Cancer Australia Foundation.
What do I get for my entry fee if there’s no “physical” race?
Apart from the good feeling of having 100% of your entry fee go directly to charity, with our events you also receive some “bling” to remember your achievement by, whereas many “physical” events do not come with a reward or memento.
